Fr. Laurentius Lee Chun-keun (李春根, 1915–1950?) was a priest-monk of Tokwon Abbey. He was born on March 8, 1915, in Sinam-ri (in present-day Yangju, Gyeonggi Province), a well-known Catholic village of the Vicariate of Seoul, the second son among the three sons and four daughters of Paul Lee Kong-myong and Veronica Hong. Brother Bruno Lee Kun-jae of Waegwan Abbey (August 6, 1925 – July 18, 2006) was his younger brother.
After finishing four years of primary school in his home village, he entered the Sacred Heart seminary and pursued his studies there. On June 24, 1939, he was ordained a priest at Myongdong Cathedral by Bishop Adrien Larribeau (元亨根), Vicar Apostolic of Seoul. As a diocesan priest he served one year as assistant at the Sariwon parish in Hwanghae Province, then from July 1940 about a year as assistant at Changhowon (now Gamgok) in Gyeonggi Province.
Longing to devote himself to the spiritual life, Fr. Lee sought admission to Tokwon Abbey in 1941, two years after ordination, with his bishop’s recommendation. He was received and began his novitiate, taking the religious name Laurentius; he made his first profession on July 26, 1942, and his perpetual vows on August 15, 1945. After solemn profession he served as prefect and professor at the Tokwon seminary.
Since the Diocese of Pyongyang was then desperately short of priests, from October 1948 he served, at the invitation of Bishop Francis Hong Yong-ho of Pyongyang, as chaplain to the Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, a native Korean congregation, and as ninth pastor of the Sopo parish.
The circumstances of his arrest and martyrdom are these. After the Sopo convent was dissolved on May 14, 1950, and its buildings confiscated, he moved to the Sunan mission station of the Sopo parish and continued to care for the faithful. On the night of June 24, when all the priests of the Diocese of Pyongyang were arrested, he too was taken by the political security police and disappeared. It is reported that he was killed in Pyongyang on October 5, 1950, as the North Korean army retreated northward.
Brother Didacus Myong met Brother Conrad Lim in Pyongyang around November 27, 1950, and spent four days with him. Brother Conrad, living in Pyongyang, had exchanged notes with the imprisoned priests through doctors who visited the prison, and so confirmed which priests were still alive. He had heard that the priests were executed on October 5, 1950, and presumed that Fr. Laurentius was killed with them — a conclusion with which Fr. Damian Hwang concurred.

이춘근 라우렌시오 신부는 덕원 성 베네딕도 수도원 소속 성직수사였다. 1915년 3월 8일, 서울 대목구의 유명한 교우촌 신암리(현재 경기도 양주군 남면 신암리)에서 아버지 이공명(李公明, 바오로)과 어머니 홍 베로니카 슬하의 3남 4녀 가운데 차남으로 태어났다. 왜관 수도원의 이근재 부르노 수사 (1925년 8월6일 – 2006년 7월18일)가 이춘근 신부의 동생이다. 이춘근 라우렌시오 신부는 고향에서 보통학교 4년 과정을 마치고, 예수성심 신학교에 입학하여 수학하였다. 그리고 1939년 6월 24일 명동 성당에서 서울 대목구장 라리보(A. Larribeau, 元亨根) 주교의 주례로 사제 서품을 받았다. 교구 사제로서 그는 황해도 사리원 본당 보좌로 1년간 사목한 후, 1940년 7월에는 경기도 장호원(現 감곡) 본당 보좌로 1년 정도 사목하였다.
이춘근 신부는 영성 생활에 매진하기 위하여, 서품 2년 후인 1941년에 주교의 추천을 받아 덕원 수도원에 입회를 청했고, 입회가 허락되어 수련을 시작하였다. 법정 수련(수도명은 라우렌시오 Laurentius)을 마친 후, 1942년 7월 26일에 첫서원을 하고 1945년 8월 15일에 종신 서원을 했다. 종신서원을 한 후 이춘근 신부는 덕원 신학교 사감 신부 겸 교수로 일하였다.
당시에는 평양 교구의 사제 수가 절대적으로 부족했으므로, 1948년 10월부터 그는 홍용호(프란치스코) 평양 교구장이 초청한 방인 수녀회인 영원한 도움의 성모 수녀회의 지도 신부로 소임을 받았다. 또한 서포 본당 제9대 본당 신부로 사목했다.
이춘근 신부의 체포 및 순교 상황은 다음과 같다. 그는 1950년 5월 14일 서포 수녀원이 해산되고 수녀원 건물 일체가 몰수된 후 서포 본당 소속 순안 공소로 거처를 옮겨 계속해서 신자들을 돌보았다. 6월 24일 밤에 평양 교구 내 모든 신부들이 체포될 때, 그도 함께 정치보위부원에게 연행되고 행방불명되었다. 1950년 10월 5일 북한군이 북으로 후퇴할 때 평양에서 피살되었다고 전해진다.
명 디다고 수사가 1950년 11월 27일경 임 곤라도 수사와 평양에서 만나 3박 4일간 같이 지냈다. 그런데 당시 임 곤라도 수사는 평양에 거주하면서 감옥에 드나드는 의사들을 통해 신부들과 쪽지로 서신 교환을 하였고, 감옥 안에 있던 신부들의 생존 여부를 확인하였다고 명 디다고 수사는 증언하였다. 임 곤라도 수사는 1950년 10월 5일에 신부들이 처형되었다는 말을 들었다고 하는데 이때 이 라우렌시오 신부도 함께 피살되었을 것이라고 추측하였다. 이 부분은 황 다미아노 신부도 동의하고 있다.
